"I've gotten two pups from Beirl's setters. Both have been great dogs with great temperament. Deb is great to deal with, and very accomodating. I will continue to purchase all my dogs from them, as long as they keep breeding them." Brian Stevens
Torrie is doing very well. She has a fantastic spirit, a great nose, is very birdie and has a strong desire to hunt. At seven months of age she is ahead of the curve. We have shot a few birds over her and I am looking forward to next season with anticipation. Torrie is still very playful and loves the snow. She chases the snow flakes as they fall! We enjoy having her in our lives and she has brought countless smiles to us each day. Take care, Jenkin Family
My wife and I picked up Ember from Beirl's in June of 2009. Being a rookie bird dog trainer, I was a little nervous at what I was getting myself into, as I have heard pointing dogs can be harder to train than flushing dogs. I must say I was all worked up over nothing. Ember has proved to be an extremely smart and easy to train dog. We had her trained to sit, come, and stay by 11 weeks, just by using hand signs! As for the bird training, it couldn't have been any easier. I introduced her to bird scent at a very young age and worked with her using the "wing on a string" for most of the summer. When hunting season came around my goal was to get her on as many birds as possible. From then on she literally trained herself. I never put too much pressure on her in the field and always tried to make hunting fun for her. By 6 months she was holding point on tight birds and would point and creep on runners. Amazing! I am very impressed with her progress in the field and I get many compliments from other hunters on how well she is doing. If she is this good now, I can't wait till next season! Whether you are looking for a great family dog or a hunting buddy, Beirl's has what you are looking for. Thanks again Deb, Steve and Carrie
Dakoda (Koda) joined our family in April 2009 and has been a VERY special friend. He has the best personality and very mellow for a setter. He is very bright and was easy to train...it takes a couple of times and he "Gets it." Koda is friendly with everyone and loves kids. My 7 and 5 year old hang on him and their friends are over and Koda loves everyone. If he's not in the car with us (Sitting in front seat like a person) he greats us with smiles and wines to say hello. He stays very close to me in field and comes with a quick whistle. He's now 68lbs and filling out. I can't say enough about him. By the way...I picked a different dog. Deb picked him for me on what I was looking for. She was right!! The Climer Family
Gauge has a lot of natural instincts. He goes after the wings, and is just a very curious dog. He is a great fit into our family. We have 2 other dogs, a choc lab and an english springer spaniel. He has a lot of energy and is a great overall dog. He is a very lovable puppy!
We have owned many hunting dogs for close to 30 years and trained many more for others. When we decided to get an English Setter we looked long and hard to find one that would be a good "FOOT HUNTING" dog. Deb provided numerous references, who gave glowing accounts of their Beirl Setter. It all seemed too good to be true. After much consideration and a year or so of "thinking about it," we decided it was time. I called Deb and asked her for what she had coming up for litters and explained what I was looking for in a dog. She helped us select our puppy (he's Clyde on the website) based on what we were wanting. Clyde now has one full season of pheasant & partridge hunting under his collar, which is about 45 days in the field for us (he is only 9 months old as I write this). Early in the season he was still a puppy but you could see he liked birds and was flash pointing. By midseason he was holding a point. He is without question going to be a great hunter and has been wonderful around the house and is great with our two other hunting dogs. I cannot say enough about both the Beirl's and their dogs. I you are considering a traditional English Setter you have come to the right place. Beirl Setters are, from my perspective, the perfect hunting companion.
We have had Todd for almost a year now. I can honestly say he is the best dog through my experience with other dogs. He has been so easy to train and I believe it was mostly him. Todd just needed to know we loved him and this is his family, he has done all the work since to make us happy with him. He is the most loyal dog. He is always outside with us & has never once tried to run off (*note this is not something we trained him to do. This is just his loyalty to us.). He is my kids best friend and will play with them till they are tired. We are not hunters, but Todd is naturally a hunter. He hunts everything in our yard and shares it with us. He brings us birds and drops them in front of us as if it is a present. He has a great personality, he will run right beside us on our bikes. He tries to make us jealous of the toys he has by playfully growling with the toy in his mouth to get our attention. He does this alot when he has a new toy he wants to show off. Our nights feel safer with him since he makes us aware of anyone that comes. He only barks at night, which makes me even more aware of his intelligence since I feel he knows when he needs to be alert and when he doesn't. Don't be mistaken, he is very friendly with our house guest but just makes us aware during the night if they stop by. He is friendly with our neighbors cats and dogs. He even has a dog friend that stops by and waits for him to come out every morning so they can play. It is like two kids playing. We were not nor was there need to be aggressive with Todd's training. He picked up on potty training very quickly, also has learned to sit when asked with very little training, along with the many other things I have and have not mentioned. We truly are very happy with our Todd boy and are even hoping to give Todd a brother for Christmas. Thank you Deb!
Finn is such an amazing animal! He is so gentle and intelligent! He loves both adults and children. He's adapted well to everyone and every situation that we have exposed him to. He's pointing and learns commands so quickly. Quite frankly, he has exceeded our expectations. I'm quite certain we will never have a dog that is not a Beirl Setter! He seems to grow daily and his coloring is really coming out. He's beautiful. We get so many compliments on not only his cuteness, but also his disposition. I don't know what he's going to do when he gets too big for our laps! Thanks for such an amazing addition to our family. Just wanted to let you know that he is VERY loved and is VERY happy here with us.
I was able to get Loki out on some quail this morning...he did great, I thought you would like to see the photos....He is showing intensity and a great desire to find birds. It was a bit warm and dry for training...but he handled it with ease! We are really impressed by the way he listens and responds...makes it great for training. He is a beautiful young dog with tons of potential, and has fit into our family very well.
When our previous English Setter (Jasper) passed away, we had decided that we didn’t need another dog as we had three other dogs still with us at the time. However, in only a few days of his passing we felt we had a hole in our family where the personality, sensitivity and love of our Jasper had fit. It didn’t take long to start looking for another English setter puppy and soon found Beirl Setters. From the moment that we contacted them about the litters that had been whelped only a couple of weeks earlier; we knew that we had found our new family member. Although we had hoped for a tri colored puppy, we chose a male from the multitude of pictures and video that Deb provided online, who in the end was a blue. Beau (short for Beauregard since he was coming from the South) arrived by airplane in Western Canada on a cold February evening. He was a bundle of fur and instantly became a beloved member of our family. Within 24 hours he was a Show & Tell subject for our daughter’s pre-school class and was as gentle as expected. Now at ten months of age Beau continues to grow and be loved by our family and all who meet him. We overlook (most of the time) the number of boots, toys, and cardboard boxes that have been chewed and continue to be chewed up. He is a sneaky toy thief and a renowned table and counter surfer-no food is safe if left unguarded even for a minute when Beau is around. He likes to stare at us when we eat and then will give a series of low barks until we share our food with him or at least give him his supper. When he wants attention he sits next to you and then paws at you gently with his front paw until you spare him a few minutes and some pats. Beau loves to play tug of war with anyone and also enjoys wrestling with our little shitzu cross dog and our kids. He loves to climb on the trampoline with the kids and actually has figured out how to jump along with them which is totally hilarious to watch. He is the big protector with a big deep bark when he sees something on TV that scares him or when he hears a strange sound in the house at night. He loves water and swimming and many times tries to bury his entire head and snout in the water bowl. He then joyfully comes to see you and after dripping water throughout the house (even though we have strategically placed towels everywhere), places his entire soaking mug in your lap for some loving. He loves to chew ice cubes and paper. He is truly a special dogJ. He loves birds and spends his walks scenting, stalking, pointing and then chasing the flying birds across the field. He goes crazy by racing through the house and on the beds if he doesn’t get his exercise on a regular basis and is growing to love the off leash park-there are a lot of big dogs there that he thinks are kind of scary. Everyone who sees him comments on his coloring and there are very few English setters around our area so we get a lot of questions at to his breed. He loves to snuggle next to you on the bed and shares blankets nicely. He has the beautiful temperament and softness that we had missed when Jasper left us and Beau is everything that we hoped for in our puppy. He’s a great example of the English setter breed and is a fantastic family dog. We love him and thank Beirl Setters for letting us have such a fantastic spirit to be part of our family.
Our Plume is a fantastic dog. So beautiful girl. She received the tri-action and force fetch training and she respond with a powerful character and capacity. My trainer classified her in the 20 % of its best overall hunting dogs. We have began to hunt grouse after the chukar training and with 2 weeks of hunting, Plume has pointed 4 grouses with a lot of intensity after chasing almost a dozen! The last one, yesterday, was a forty feet point. I was staggered. After all she is only 10 months old. Her nose is great. We didn't have the woodcock migration but we expect to drive to the East coast of Québec, named Gaspésie, where we suppose to find a lot of a ¨non-human trained¨ grouses. She is so calm and funny at home and our two granddaughters have now a new sister. She is a great family member. We are very enthusiast about her and thank's to you to make her life possible
Cisco joined our family in June 2011, and he is such a sweetheart! He’s very inquisitive and follows us everywhere. We could see right from the start that he’s a very smart dog. The first night that we brought him home, he slept through the night in his kennel without a peep, and he still does that. Deb and Chad do a great job socializing their pups. Cisco adapted quickly to his new home and our other two Setters. Anytime we had a question, Deb got right back to us. From our many conversations, Deb helped us pick the pup that she felt would be best suited for us. We are so happy with Cisco! We hope to someday add another Beirl Setter to our family. Last fall I was in the market for another English Setter after I had the unfortunate experience of losing my field type English Setter to seizures. I had decided after doing a lot of research over the internet to go with a Ryman type English Setter this time since I was looking for a larger animal. It didn’t take long to find out Beirl’s English Setters had just what I was looking for. Chad and Deb’s breeding dogs are second to none. As a matter of fact I did a lot of lengthy research of their dog’s pedigrees and determined that I definitely wanted one of their pups. I can’t count the times I commented to Deb about her website. She has put a lot of time and effort in it providing the public not only information on her dogs but history of the Ryman type setter and others that are found in her dog’s history. It is not hard to tell that they love their dogs and use them what they were intended for. Deb was very helpful with all of my questions and I could have been more pleased with the female she picked out for me. Shipping it via an airline could not have been any smoother. I received my female setter in June of 2011 and “Molly” is everything I wanted in an English Setter. Chris Salyer Mesa, AZ
